Over 90% of beings that ever lived on Earth are now extinct – if you’re reading this, you’re lucky enough to be in the 10% that survived! We're all familiar with the idea that many species are either extinct or endangered, but this is a surprisingly modern theory. Dr Sadiah Qureshi gives a whistle-stop tour of the history of extinction from a historian’s perspective. Her talk will show how scientists have gone from believing that extinction can only be due to human actions to accepting that it is an endemic feature of the natural world. The talk will also explore current attempts to either stop extinction through conservation or even resurrect lost species through de-extinction.
This event takes place within our London Festival Hub. Our Hub venues are all within a 5-minutes walking distance from each other so you can easily travel between talks. Remember: there's a 20-25 minute break between each talk to make it as easy as possible to get to the talks you like.
